Offgrid NYC — Privacy Policy

Last updated: 6 August 2026
Effective date: 6 August 2026

This policy explains what data the Offgrid NYC app (“App”) handles. The App is operated by Cinema SB LLC (“we,” “us”).

The short version: there are no accounts, no ads, and no tracking. We do not sell your data. Almost everything you do in the App stays on your device. The only thing our servers learn about you is which spots get liked, tied to a random identifier rather than to you.

1. What stays on your device

The App stores the following only locally, on your device:

  • the spots you like, save, or skip, and your viewing history;

  • your trips, guides, lists, and travel dates;

  • your settings (language, appearance, safety-notice acknowledgement);

  • cached thumbnails and video data, so the App opens fast and copes with a weak connection. This cache is kept on disk between launches and is capped in size.

None of this is uploaded to an account — there are no accounts. “Delete all data” in the App wipes all of it, including the caches.

2. What our servers receive

Our backend receives exactly three things:

  • Catalogue requests, when the App fetches or refreshes the list of spots and guides. Like any web request this exposes your IP address and standard technical metadata to the server; we use it only to serve the request and to block abuse.

  • Like/save interactions. When you like or save a spot, the App batches those events and sends them with a random per-install identifier (Section 3). This powers aggregate statistics such as “most-liked spots.” No name, no email, and no location is attached.

  • Spot suggestions, if you suggest a place (Section 5).

That is the complete list. The App sends nothing else to us.

3. The anonymous install identifier

The App generates one random identifier (a UUID) per installation and keeps it in the device Keychain. It is attached only to like/save interactions, so our aggregate counts can tell “one person liked this fifty times” apart from “fifty people liked it once.”

It is random. It is not derived from, and cannot be linked to, your name, email, phone number, Apple ID, advertising identifier, or any other identity. We do not use it to track you across apps or websites, and you can reset it at any time with “Delete all data.”

4. Location — it never leaves your device

If you grant location permission, your position is used on your device to sort spots by distance, show the blue dot on the map, follow a walking route, and trigger optional reminders when you pass somewhere you saved. Those reminders are local notifications generated on your device.

Your precise location is never transmitted to our servers. It is not attached to likes, to suggestions, or to any other request. If you decline the permission the App still works and simply assumes a central Manhattan viewpoint.

Map tiles, place search, and walking directions are requested from Apple Maps directly by your device (Section 7).

5. Contacting us and suggesting a spot

The App has no contact form. When you choose to contact us, the App opens your own email app with a message addressed to us. Nothing is sent until you send it, and it is sent from your own mail account — the App never transmits your message or your address itself. Your email then reaches our support inbox like any other email, which means we have your message, your email address, and whatever sender name your mail account uses. We use them only to reply to you.

If you suggest a spot, the place name or neighbourhood and an optional note are sent to our backend database so we can review it and decide whether to add the place. The App does not ask for your email address here, and it automatically strips obvious personal data such as email addresses and phone numbers from the free-text field before sending.

Both are entirely voluntary.

6. No analytics, no ads, no tracking

The App contains no third-party analytics SDK, no advertising SDK, and no social-media SDK, and it does not use the advertising identifier (IDFA). Internal event hooks exist in the code but are connected to nothing — those events are discarded on the device and never sent anywhere.

The only usage information we ever receive is the aggregate like/save counts described in Section 2. We do not sell, rent, or share personal information, and the App's privacy manifest declares no tracking, so you will never see an App Tracking Transparency prompt.

If we ever connect an analytics service, it will be anonymous and aggregate, and we will update this policy and our App Store privacy label before it goes live.

7. Service providers the App talks to

To function, the App loads content from these providers. Like any internet service they see your IP address and what was requested:

  • Apple Inc. — Map display, place search, and walking directions through Apple Maps; on-device translation; and the “rate this app” prompt. Requested by your device under Apple's privacy terms.

  • BunnyWay d.o.o. (Bunny.net) — The content-delivery network that streams our spot videos and their thumbnails to you. See Bunny.net's privacy policy.

  • Cloudflare, Inc. — Hosts our backend (Workers and a D1 database), which serves the spot catalogue and receives the requests in Section 2, and helps us block abuse. See Cloudflare's privacy policy.

These providers act as infrastructure. We do not share your identity with them, because we do not have it.

We may also disclose information if required by law, to enforce our terms, or to protect the rights, safety, and security of our users or the public. If Cinema SB LLC is involved in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, personal data may be transferred, and we will require the recipient to honour this policy.

8. Booking links and affiliate partners

Tapping a booking button (hotels, stays, tours, tickets, tables) opens the partner's own website — for example Booking.com, GetYourGuide, Viator, Tiqets, Airbnb, OpenTable, or Resy. From that moment the partner's privacy policy and terms apply, not ours.

To pre-fill the search, travel dates you set in the App may be included in the link. No other personal data is passed. Some links are affiliate links: we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you, which changes neither the price you pay nor what data is collected.

9. Where your data is processed

Cinema SB LLC is based in the United States, and your information is processed and stored in the United States and in other countries where our service providers operate their infrastructure. If you use the App from outside the United States, you understand that your information will be processed in the United States, where data-protection laws may differ from those in your country.

10. How long we keep data

  • On your device: until you delete it, either with “Delete all data” in the App or by deleting the App.

  • Interaction data on our servers: anonymous and held in aggregate. Because it is not linked to you, we genuinely cannot look up or extract “your” records from it.

  • Spot suggestions: kept only as long as we need to review them.

  • Email correspondence: if you emailed us, we keep it as long as needed to handle your request, and you can ask us to delete it.

11. Security

We use industry-standard measures to protect your data, including encryption in transit (HTTPS/TLS), a device-only secure store (the Keychain) for the anonymous identifier, server-side input validation, authenticated administrative access, and rate-limiting. No method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, but we work to protect your information and review our practices regularly.

12. Your privacy rights

Depending on where you live — for example California or another US state with a comprehensive privacy law, or the EU/EEA and UK — you may have rights to access, correct, delete, or port personal data, and to object to or restrict processing.

We do not sell or share personal information, we do not use it for targeted advertising, and we do not profile you in a way that produces legal or similarly significant effects. We will not treat you differently for exercising a right.

Because the App holds no account and no identity, most of these rights are best exercised on your device: the local data is yours to delete at any time. For anything else, contact us using Section 15. You may also complain to your local data-protection authority.

13. Children

The App is intended for a general audience and is not directed to children under 13. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children. If you believe a child has provided us data, write to us and we will delete it.

14. Changes to this policy

If we change what data the App handles, we will update this policy and its “Last updated” date first, and give more prominent notice for material changes.
